Sankt Oswald-Riedlhütte

The National Park community Sankt Oswald-Riedlhütte is nestled between the two highest mountains of the Bavarian Forest – Mount Rachel and Mount Lusen. Plattenhausenriegel in the Czech Bohemian Forest forms the border ridge of the two National Parks Bavarian Forest and Ṡumava – an ideal starting point for hiking tours of all kind.

Near the Czech border, located on the south side of the National Park, there is the community St. Oswald-Riedlhütte with its districts Reichenberg, Höhenbrunn, Haslach and Guglöd. Far away from hustle and bustle, guests can recover and relax. Situated idyllically between Mount Rachel and Mount Lusen, Sankt Oswald-Riedlhütte enchants with its extensive backdrop. The visitor finds a large variety of recreational and leisure facilities as well as art and culture.

Most of all the glass art has its tradition here. It can be visited in the Schauglashütte and the Riedlhütte Wald-Glas-Garten (forest glass garden). Children’s eyes light up in search of gold at the historically rebuilt gold washing place. The newly designed “Waldgeschichtliches Museum” (museum of forest history) offers an exhibition, suitable for children, around the theme of nature, with an “accessible tree” as the main attraction. In the middle of the village, there is also the opportunity to get to know a little better the mascot of the community – a deer – in the large enclosure.

Also in the winter time, St. Oswald-Riedlhütte has a lot of attractive offers: 60 kilometre long cross-country ski trails run through beautiful, untouched landscapes. Also alpine enthusiasts, toboggan fans and ice-skaters are provided with an extensive winter programme.

With the new GUTi (guest service environmental ticket) all holidaymakers can use buses and trains for free – also in winter. The best thing is: Every visitor pays only half of the price for guided tours in the National Park if they travel with their GUTi.
