Vom Wald das Beste. – Nationalparkregion Bayerischer Wald

Neuschönau

Pure nature in the health resort

Impressive natural experience amid fascinating forest wilderness, mysterious hermitages, a lively tradition and hospitable people: This is the community Neuschönau. Under granite peaks a unique hiking area extends from the mountain village Waldhäuser around the local mountain Lusen. The view from the tower of the worldwide longest treetop path shows the beautiful panorama of the holiday region and opens up new perspectives.

The community Neuschönau abuts the southernmost corner of the National Park Centre Lusen. In the immediate vicinity there is the visitor centre Hans-Eisenmann-Haus, a popular place to go for all visitors of the holiday region. Neuschönau with its almost 2,200 inhabitants is a wonderful holiday destination for families. Especially for the little guests there is a lot of adventure to experience.

An unforgettable holiday experience is guaranteed by the animal enclosure, where bears, lynxes, wolves and many other animals can be admired. A swimming lake ensures refreshment, and National Park guided tours guarantee the necessary sport activities.

Every year the community organises various events for the little guests: The summer festival, the children’s adventure days and the big children’s Bärchenfest. Neuschönau was awarded for special fondness for children by the Bayern Tourismus Marketing GmbH.

Also interesting is the carefully made “Bärenpfad” (bear path) that leads 15 kilometres through the National Park region. On this path, children can see the world through the eyes of two bear-brothers and find out whether they are as strong as a bear. At various stations they learn interesting things about the Bavarian Forest, its flora and fauna.
