Vom Wald das Beste. – Nationalparkregion Bayerischer Wald

Leisure activities in the Bavarian Forest

The community Hohenau with its main villages Hohenau and Schönbrunn at Mountain Lusen offers, at an altitude of 486 to 1,010 metres above sea level, numerous sport activities like hiking, horse riding, cycling and e-cycling. The nearby museum for glass painting in Neuraimundsreut is one of the regional attractions: Impressive originals, copies and historical compositions introduce to this traditional art form.

Directly at the southern corner of the National Park Bavarian Forest lies the community Hohenau, and thus represents one of the main entrances to the unique hiking and recreational area. From the ridge of the National Park community in the north, visitors have a beautiful view of the area of the National Park and its low mountain range – from Mount Lusen to Mount Rachel.

The National Park Centre Lusen with its animal enclosure, the Baumwipfelpfad (treetop path) and the Hans-Eisenmann-Haus, Mount Lusen and the rock hiking area invite all active visitors to have unforgettable nature adventures. The wild Lower Bavarian nature can be explored well on picturesque walking paths. Also, numerous hiking, horse riding and cycling paths offer our guests excursions in the scenically diverse environments of the National Park.

The wild and romantic gorge of Buchberger Leite is very close to Hohenau. Besides, a natural swimming pond with a beach volleyball field, a sunbathing area and a barbeque place ensure relaxing summer stays.

An extensive network of cross-country ski trails and winter hiking paths, cleared from snow, also offer winter holidaymakers many opportunities to create their leisure. On the observation platform in Saulorn an overwhelming panorama view awaits all guests of the community Hohenau. In appropriate weather, the view even reaches as far as the mighty Alp massif.
