Vom Wald das Beste. – Nationalparkregion Bayerischer Wald

Fantastic oases of calm at the gate to the National Park

Eppenschlag, in the heart of the National Park Bavarian Forest, is a real piece of perfect world. At an altitude of up to 878 metres, untouched meadows, forests and brooks surround the picturesque villages of the community. From the viewpoint Hessenstein the view reaches as far as the Alps in good weather.

At the western border of the county Freyung-Grafenau lies the little town Eppenschlag with its about 1,000 inhabitants. It counts among the heavenly little places of the Bavarian Forest. In a carefully designed cultural landscape, every visitor finds their peace and recreation. The parish village itself is surrounded by charming farming villages, in the north a densely wooded mountain ridge connects the wide meadows of Eppenschlag with the mountains of the nearby Bavarian Forest.

Families have their fun in the theme park with its “Klopferbach” pond: With a large playground, beach volleyball field and natural brooks, children experience nature very closely, while their parents get their refreshment in the Kneipp facility. Along the “Mitternacher Ohe” – a tributary of the Große Ohe – idyllic hiking tours lead through the conservation area of the same name.

With its national and international successes, the winter sports club WSV Eppenschlag has become the flagship of the region. In the holiday region National Park, Eppenschlag is also a pleasure for winter sport aficionados: At the sports centre Fürstenberg, the tow lift is great fun, just like the different cross-country ski trails, the toboggan runs and the ice rink. Hiking fans can climb up the nearby peaks – the 878 metre high Hessenstein or the Daxstein with an altitude of 817 metres.
