The best of glass, forest and water
Probably the most sparkling road in Germany leads for the most part through the Bavarian Forest National Park vacation region. The Glass Road!
A wild, largely untouched forest gives the region its name.
Clear, fresh mountain streams, pristine springs and rivers form a network of lifelines.
All three elements combine to form a whole that makes the Bavarian Forest National Park vacation region unique and unmistakable .

Bavarian Forest National Park - the heart of the vacation region
The first national park in the whole of Germany was established in October 1970.
Together with the neighboring Sumava National Park on the Czech side, it forms the largest contiguous forest area in Central Europe.
"Let nature be nature"
"Let nature be nature" is the motto of the national park. And indeed, the forest is developing into a fascinating forest wilderness with a wide variety of flora and fauna, impressive streams, bogs, felts and shafts and mighty rock formations that delight every visitor.
Water as an elixir of life - the landscape, flora and fauna all benefit from the abundance of water in the vacation region. Whether wild streams, lakes and moors, which provide all nature lovers with picturesque landscape impressions all year round, or impressive buildings to supply the local population with drinking water - the element contributes to recreation and the high standard of living and quality in the region, especially in the vacation region.
The Frauenau drinking water dam is not just an impressive structure that serves as the region's water supply. From spring to fall, it is a popular excursion destination for hikers and cyclists, which is very well connected by many hiking and cycling trails and is the starting or finishing point for many cycling or hiking tours.
