Bavarian Forest National Park - the heart of the vacation region
The first national park in the whole of Germany was established in October 1970.
Together with the neighboring Sumava National Park on the Czech side, it forms the largest contiguous forest area in Central Europe.
"Let nature be nature"
"Let nature be nature" is the motto of the national park. And indeed, the forest is developing into a fascinating forest wilderness with a wide variety of flora and fauna, impressive streams, bogs, felts and shafts and mighty rock formations that delight every visitor.

The Frauenau drinking water dam is not just an impressive structure that serves as the region's water supply.
